Photos from Carter Whalen Racing's post Dixie Shootout Series race recap....this was the largest Dixie race ever, with 198 cars in attendance. 22 Heavy Hondas, 16 Heavy 160s & 13 Heavy World Formulas.
Carter easily won his Heavy Honda Heat, putting him on the outside pole for the A Main.
In World Formula he finished 4th in his heat, putting him 2nd in the B Main...he lead the entire caution filled B Main, finishing 1st, giving him the P7 spot in the A Main.
In the Heavy 160 heat, he lead the entire race until a caution at lap 11 bunched them back up. The 2nd place car was able to gain the lead, so Carter finished P2. This put him P5 in the A Main.
ALL 3 Cars were now easily parked in the A Mains!!
Features didn't start until 9pm. Once Carter rolled out in the Heavy Honda it was close to 10pm. During the 30 second warm up a much slower car spun in front of Carter and with no where to go he slammed into her, destroying the front end....we didn't even get to race and show the speed we had.
With just 1 race to pull himself together, Carter jumped into his World Formula where he showed up. He moved from 7th to 4th and was tracking down P3 when he was involved in an incident causing damage. We worked hard in the pits and pushed him back out where he was put in the back. He climbed his way back to 7th where he finished. Given that this is a new class for him which requires more skill, throttle control and increased speed, we couldn't be happier.
In Heavy 160 we had high hopes. Starting P5 he jumped to P4 and the top 4 ran away from the rest. He and P3 battled and the car tightened up on him in the cold air. With 8 laps to go the chain just mysteriously fell off...we brought him in, put the chain back on and sent him off...starting from the back of the 10 car field he methodically picked off cars in the remaining laps, finishing 6th or 7th?
Overall, the results were NOT what we had hoped. We had the speed and the driver, but not the luck. We will keep pushing.
